Can a disc bulge be corrected?

I have suffering in my back, as well as additionally diabetic neuropathy. An MRI inform says we have the bulge, so was wondering if there was a little approach it could be fixed.

    Suggestions:
  1. Surgery can be done, but doctors are usually not willing to do it unless it actually ruptures. Surgery is really the last option, because I know people who have had back surgery and the rehab is really long. Your best option is to stay in shape and when pain comes, use a heating pad (thats what I do)

  2. surgery is optional, but it is not suggested since the surgery is so near to the spine and vital stuff…ask your doctor about any type of needle-injected medication that may reduce the swelling…my dad has a bulging disc and he gets that about once a month, but i’m not sure what it is called…also, if you experience any pinched nerves due to that, there are various equipment you can hang on your door and, placing your chin on a strap that is counterbalanced with a liquid weight, it will gently stretch your spine until it is in the proper place and no nerves are being pinched

  3. I believe what you are talking about is something called the intercatelated disk between the bones of your spine. This disk works like a shock absorber. It is like a water balloon filled with a fluid called sanovial fluid. The bulge occurs when you lift something too heavy, eventually the bulge will burst, releasing the sanovial fluid. This leaves the empty husk of the baloon so to speak to rub against itself. Eventually this husk will wear away, and the bone will start to wear and grind away at itself. The body will try to repair this worn bone, and the bones will eventually fuse together (this is arthritus). Unfortunately there is no known way to reverse a blown disk. The best thing for a bulging disk is to relax, and take it easy. Stay off your feet as much as possible, and DO NOT LIFT ANYTHING HEAVY.

  4. My disc bulge was corrected by seeing a chiropractior it took 6 months to do but its fine now…but you will alway have to be careful now that it has bulged…my disc will go out sometimes just bending over…(i inherted my problem)

  5. A bulging disc is a lot more common than people realize. Most of the time there are no symptoms. A bulging disc can be repaired without surgery. In fact a good surgeon will not operate on a disc that is simply bulging. Cortisone injections are very helpful because the steroid is an anti inflammatory that will reduce the swelling in the disc itself. Surgery should only be considered if the disc herniates. Your treatment of this problem should be based on the amount of pain that you have. If it’s something that doesn’t seem too bad for you, rest & ibuprofen may do the trick. At any rate, you need a orthopedist to take a look.

  6. I have had back pain since I was 10yrs old, its been 24/7 over 30yrs now. I had one disc ’shaved’ oe ‘reduced’ in 4/95 2 mons later my Appendix’ burst & my disc pain came back. If its not ‘piching a nerve’, try to live with it, taking mild meds. I’am ‘glad’ I didn’t go the surgey route, I have 4 discs, in my lower back, but 2 ,,one is allowing the vertabrays grow together, one other one is a ‘pankake. I have been thre evr & all treatments, one I had in 04 was an IDET which my Dr. could only do 2 of the discs, I was able to walk without the knifes stabbing me with every step, I slep 5-6 hrs, my mood was better, then in Jano5 I fell in the garage off a boat fender & it waslike my whole lower back spread its self out to take all the fall. For 3 wks, I couldn’r sit, lay, or walk without ’screaming pain, now my Ins won’t pay for another one & I pay out of pocket for the Ins. PLEASE explore, ask questions, pick every ones brain for ideas, but STAY AWAY FROM SURGEY …SURGEY, I did ask my dr. if they take some of your disc away does it grow back or what…he said ‘no you just lose more disc space. Many friends & people I have talked to who had surgey, now are sorry they did. You have lots of work & learnig to do. Good Luck

  7. It cannot physically be corrected. The conservative methods all just deal with a way to cope around it.

-Physical therapy makes back muslces stronger so not as much weight goes through the spine which might lessen the push on the nerve
-Chiropracters just manipulate it so that it might feel better

The fact of the matter is that there is a little chunk of your disc sticking and pushing against your nerve. Nothing is goiing to get rid of this except surgery where you go in and fix it mechanically.
Im not saying to rush into surgery. Try conservative methods first, im serious. You’ll thank yourself when arthritis strikes!

  8. Another alternative is myopractic by a trained myopractor which would help to correct your back problems.
