Does having diabetes effect existing ear piercings? My wife has been having diabetic symptoms…?

She has had her ears pierced given she was 6 years old, though never wears earring anymore. They never tighten up upon her. But, newly with a conflict of her diabetic symptoms, her ear piercings have been stuffing with pus as well as they feel proposal to touch. She has not been to a alloy to find out if she is diabetic or not. But, we was only wondering if this is something she should discuss to a alloy when she goes?

  1. Yes, diabetics are prone to fungus and yeast infections. A mixture of Alcohol and vinegar 50/50 will clear it up. If not then antibiotics are in order. Dermatitis is always lurking so cleanliness is our best defense. I get it in the groin area and use a 1 % hydrocortizone ointment. Works well but you have to keep at it.

  2. MOST DEFINITELY!

For diabetics, ANY infections can cause significant health problems.

Go to the doctor and get herself checked for diabetes – this means an a1c test, fasting blood sugar test, and possibly a glucose tolerance test.

She will also need to get that infection treated, whether she is diabetic or not.

If the infection spreads, being so close to the ear, she -could- go deaf.

  3. i have type 2 diabetes and have known for 3 years. i probably have had it longer and just did not know it. i would not think that having diabetes would cause her to get the infection. but having diabetes will make it harder for infections to clear up. i know when im sick or get cuts and bruises at work, it does take them a little longer to heal up then the average person. i would keep her ears clean and wash them several times a day with soft soap or something in that nature. if it is still infected in a few days, then see a doctor. you can buy a glucose meter from the store and test at home to find out if she is diabetic. you can get a one touch meter mini for around 20 bux. the strips can be expensive. for 25 it can range around 25 bux. test her blood sugar two hours after a meal and keep a log of the findings and bring them to the doctor if there is anything that stands out. 120-160 after meals is what your looking for. sometimes diabetes symptoms can be explained by other health concerns too.

  4. any infection with higher glucose levels is almost deadly especially on or in the head! this is way too close to the brain.

Are you sure the ear lobes are infected or does she have newly discovered pimples and blackheads in this area? I get nastyish irritating pimple like on my ears when I wear my glasses or my pierced earrings sometimes. It isn’t really pus. It is secretions from sebaceous glands and is just being most irritating.

I use a lot of Witch Hazel to control this problem. behind ears, in hairline, near eyes. It doesn’t burn and dry the skin like alcohol or some toners do. And it comes in lots of different scents now too.
