I'm 31 weeks and I also have GD. My Dr. put me on a diet constructed by the American Diabetic Association. So you may want to check out their website. It basically breaks down what you should have as far as protein, carbs, etc for each meal. The website is very helpful and will give you a lot of information. Hope this helps!

Look at the ingredients of the back of the package....anything that have the first two ingredients listed as "enriched white flour" is not good. It's high in carbs that will turn to sugar.

Good Luck!!!

Don't eat potatoes; definitely no french fries! Really watch the bread (keep a daily record so you don't go over your limit). Absolutely no sweets! You will get enough healthy carbs from your fruits and vegetables servings. (You are even going to have to keep a record of your fruit servings, by the way.)

I had gd with my 2nd pregnancy (diet controlled) and then I had it with the next pregnancy, twins (pretty much insulin dependent). Since you are already this far in the pregnancy - best thing would be to stay away from carbs, period! Cut out the soda, juices (that have added sugar) and milk. Go ahead and cut out sweets. You only have a few weeks left in the pregnancy, just eat in moderation. In future pregnancies, you might want to get checked early - you chances of getting gd with future pregnancies is increased.

Best of luck

Be sure to read labels. That will be your new reading material until you give birth. LOL Seriously, make sure that you do not consume massive amounts of sugar, of course, and follow a strict diet. What my dietician gave me is similar to this:

Breakfast: No more than 30 carbs
AM snack: No more than 15 carbs
Lunch: No more than 35 carbs
PM Snack: No more than 15 carbs
Dinner: No more than 45 carbs
Evening snack: No more than 20 carbs

This was a strict guideline I was to follow. I was also insulin dependant, so I might have had a stricter diet than most.
Make sure that you remember juices also are high in carbs, as well as milk and sodas.
Cereals are a terrible morning breakfast-it will cause your blood sugar to spike and drop.
French fries and sodas are some of the worst things you can eat, so try to eliminate fast food from your diet, or keep it in moderation.
There are plenty of diabetic recipes floating out on the web. Try doing a google search for diabetic recipes, and I'm sure you'll get a ton of hits.
