  1. home glucometers are very accurate. if i were you, i would keep a log. usually one comes in the package of the glucometer. or you can make your own…whatever. but 38 is dangerously low. keep a log for say… 2 weeks. before and after each meal. right after you wake up and right before you go to bed, and also set your alarm for a 2 am check. write your numbers down, write what you eat, how you feel…etc.
    then take this to your doctor. you might need to see a endocrinologist for this problem. seriously, 38 is low even for a type 1 like me…and i take insulin…

  2. 38 is a very scarey number and even if the meter were to be maybe 25% off, that too is scarey. If your wife said hers was pretty normal, you were in great danger!

    My sister eats the same as a diabetic – very low carb food plan and does just fine.

    If you work at keeping your system level, no spiking glucose so it falls rapidly, then you can get back on the sane level of near normals.

    Small amounts of mostly protein, fats and salad stuff for carbs, frequently, like 5 to 6 small meals a day you can manage this. There is no medications that I am aware of for HYPO.

    And don’t fall for the line that you need sugar!! That is the very last thing you need. A little fast acting sugar and a lot of protein will be the best bet. A Sandwich of one slice bread, meat and whatever veggies you like on that. Maybe a spoon of sugar in your tea or coffee.

    The sugar roller coaster is not a fun trip at all, so don"t take it.
