There are 5 suggestions to question “is diet coke ok for diabetic type 1? help?”

  1. Yeah, you can have diet coke. :) I do advise that you talk to your doctor to educate youself a bit more though. Diabetes is a complicated disease. But for the meantime, go ahead and chug away as long as it’s diet!

  2. The most commonly distributed version of Diet Coke (and majority of beverages using artificial sweeteners) relies on Aspartame, which has been blamed by some scientists and medical professionals for possibly causing serious illnesses (such as cancer, brain tumors, brain lesions, and lymphoma) when consumed in large quantities.

  3. gangadharan nair is telling like it is, that aspartame is worse the sugar. Find something else.

  4. Pretty much any Diet beverage is sugar free and YES you can have it. If you are ever unsure, just read the label printed right there on the can. Reading labels should be a regular habit for a diabetic.
Also a good tool to use is something like http://www.calorieking.com/foods/
where you can look up the nutritional value for any food, brand or restaurant.

  5. You can but soda in general is really not a good idea. The carbonic acid in soda can damage the kidneys over a long period of time. Diet soda has no sugar in it.
