I've got type one "juvenile" diabetes. The difference is,type one is not something you get due to not eating right or weight gain, it's something you can't prevent,usually occurs very early and most often is genetic. Type 2 is late onset,as one gets older and doesn't eat as healthy,doesn't require insulin,the pancreas isn't producing enough insulin.Where as in type 1,the pancreas doesn't produce ANY insulin I’ve been diabetic since I was 3. Now most people (in my profession)say Insulin dependent diabetes (IDDM) or non-insulin dependent diabetes (NIDDM). I think the reason why they are changing the way they look at that is because when someone is diagnosed with diabetes, you don't really know how long they have had it, just that they have it now. For example, my cousin found out his blood sugar was 800+ on the night before his wedding. He was 24 years old. He could have had diabetes many years before that, (or something suddenly went haywire) and was never diagnosed because the body has a funny way of acclimating itself to changes.
