There are 6 suggestions to question “what do you mean by "diabetic with autonomic neuropathy"?”
The elevated blood glucose levels are wreaking havoc on the nerves.
Autonomic neuropathy is damage to the nerves of the involuntary nervous system.
due to daiabetes that is high blood sugar, it affects nerves due to microangiopathy and pt will have loss of sensation over skin and they r more prone for injury as they cannot appriciate pain. one has to be careful regarding foot as it is most vulnerable to injury.
Uncontrolled blood sugars in a patient with diabetes can lead to damaged nerves.
These damaged nerve endings can cause : ‘Gastroparesis” = stomach instability….causes diarrhoea
‘Urinary Incontinence’ = bladder instability….urine leakage.
‘Erectile dysfunction’, Tingling and numbness (usually lower leg regions) etc etc
I have seen a diabetic who fainted on standing due to drop in blood pressure. This is autonomic neuropathy.
in Diabetes the high blood sugar leads to increased viscosity (in simple words – increased concenteration of sugar and thick blood) leads to leaking of water in the nerves and the sheath covering the nerves can not accomodate this hence destroyed under pressure leading to damage of nerves.
Such damage is percieved as abniormal sansation viz.
NUMBNESS
PAIN
ABNORMAL FEELING OF touch and tempreture
this hempers the normal nervous system
this is Neuropathy.
