My aunt is the diabetic as well as pronounced she can’t go around unclothed feet as well as regularly has to wear hosiery since her diabetes….. because is that?
There are 2 suggestions to question “Why do diabetics need to wear socks?”
diabetics usually have poor circulation, and certain socks help.
For a few reasons.
First, a common diabetic complication is neuropathy and poor circulation in the extremities. Certain socks can help improve circulation.
Second, socks and shoes can help protect a diabetic’s feet. Diabetics with high blood sugar are more prone to infection. Combined with poor circulation and a foot wound could lead to an amputation.
In general, diabetics should take very good care of their feet. I lotion my feet every day and use a pumice stone to prevent callouses from getting to the point where they might snag or rip open. I tend to wear socks all the time and I rarely wear sandals.
